Inter Milan Appoints Stefano Pioli As Manager
Inter Milan have appointed Stefano Pioli as their new manager. The Serie A club confirmed the news in an announcement on their official site. Former Lazio boss Pioli replaces the fired Frank de Boer.
New arrivals for his staff were also confirmed: “F.C. Internazionale is delighted to confirm that terms have been agreed with Stefano Pioli to become Inter's new head coach until 30 June, 2018. Joining the club with him will be Giacomo Murelli (assistant coach), Davide Lucarelli (technical assistant), Matteo Osti (fitness coach) and Francesco Perondi (fitness coach)."
"Pioli, 51, is expected to be given an 18-month contract worth around £1.25million this season and £1.8m over the next campaign."
Once he's unveiled, Pioli will set about rebuilding a talented squad that performed below expectations on De Boer's watch. Inter are ninth in Italy's top flight, a massive 13 points adrift of perennial leaders Juventus.
Former Ajax chief De Boer was sacked after just 11 league games in charge.
The man who won four Eredivisie titles in Amsterdam couldn't motivate an Inter squad loaded with quality.
The new man took Lazio to the Coppa Italia final in 2015, where the Roma-based club was beaten by Juve. However, his main focus will be getting Inter Milan into the UEFA Champions League qualification places for next season.
Pioli will now try to get the best from players such as French midfield destroyer Geoffrey Kondogbia, Croatian deep-lying playmaker Marcelo Brozovic, rugged Colombian centre-back Jeison Murillo and controversial striker Mauro Icardi.
