Manchester United Back In England After 2-1 Lose To Fenerbahce
The squad looked understandably tired as they walked through Manchester Airport at 3.30am.
United lost yesterday's Europa League clash in Istanbul thanks to goals from Moussa Sow and Jeremain Lens.
The loss means United sit third in Group A, one point behind Fenerbahce and Feyenoord with two games left.
The Portuguese boss criticised United's display after they struggled to threaten Fenerbahce despite retaining 70 per cent of the possession.
“Our problems started in our global attitude,” he said.
“We cannot be dominant and strong without two central defenders. It is difficult to cope. We had creative players on the pitch but we are not scoring enough goals.”
Depay has failed to scored in seven appearances for United this season and was left out of the side that lost 2-1 to Fenerbahce last night.
The Holland international, who arrived at United last year in a £25million deal after impressing in the Eredivisie, has struggled to force his way into the United side.
"The potential is there for him to be a good player," Advocaat said. "You cannot lose that, he has the quality to be a top player, but the problem for him is that there are so many quality players in that squad.
"So for himself it is important to start playing regularly at the age that he is at - otherwise the way, I think, is that maybe he has to find another solution [club] because he is too good to sit on the bench.
"I still believe in him, he has the right mentality, the right character to play for United, but there are so many options there. Regular playing time will help his progression."
